Social Media Video Production

A film trimmed to sixty seconds is a compromise, and on a phone it shows. The social video that works was planned for the platform from the start, with a hook and a length that suit where it'll be watched, and it turns up every week rather than once a year when somebody remembers.

A thirty minute conversation with the team. No obligation.

So as well as single films, we make social video as a monthly package. We plan it with you and film it in batches, then deliver a steady run of posts cut for each platform. The filming and the edit get the same care as a brand film.

What social video needs to do

The challenge isn't making something watchable. It's making something that earns the watch in the first two seconds on a phone with the sound off. Most videos lose people before the third second, because they open on a logo or a slow establishing shot, and by then your next customer has scrolled past.

Good social video production starts in the middle of something and makes sense without audio, with captions doing the work the sound would. That means thinking about the platform and the creative idea before thinking about the production, which is where every package starts.

How a monthly package works

It starts with a plan. Before anything is filmed, we sit down with you and work out what you need to say over the next three months and who needs to hear it. That becomes a content calendar built around recurring formats and the dates in your year that matter, like a launch or a conference.

Then we batch film. A crew turning up every week would make the package expensive, so we film in concentrated days and capture several weeks of material in one go. Interviews, behind the scenes footage and short pieces to camera all come from the same day, and one well planned shoot day can feed a whole run of posts. If you've been looking for a social media videographer or a reels videographer, this is what that day is: social media filming done vertical first, by the same people who plan and cut every post.

Each month we edit. The footage is cut into posts for each platform, with captions burnt in and a hook in the first frame. You review them and give your notes, and then they're ready to schedule. At the end of the month we look at what people watched and what they skipped, so the next month's edits follow the evidence.

What a month looks like

A typical month is a run of short films, usually two a week, each between fifteen seconds and two minutes long. A month might hold a customer story cut into three parts, a founder talking about one decision, a behind the scenes piece from a project, and a short product film. Each one is delivered in the shapes it needs, vertical for Reels, Stories, Shorts and TikTok, and square or 16:9 for LinkedIn and YouTube.

The exact mix depends on what you're trying to achieve. A business recruiting engineers needs a different month from a charity building towards an appeal, so we shape each package around the goal.

Where it lives

LinkedIn is where most of our business clients need to show up. The platform rewards substance, and a well made sixty second film with something to say usually does more there than a polished thirty second ad. Case study cuts and founder stories both work well.

Instagram is the vertical frame, and if you want to stop a scroll there the first frame has to do real work. YouTube is where longer social video earns its keep, and because it's a search engine, a good product demo or explainer keeps bringing in viewers long after upload day. TikTok suits brands with a lighter voice and a younger audience, and we'll tell you honestly if it isn't right for you.

What a package gives you that a phone video doesn't

ASK Partners wanted new high-end investors, so we interviewed three of its current ones, once, and built a funnel from it: a shareable short film, full films of two to three minutes, and social clips cut from the same footage that point people back to the longer films. One set of interviews gave a whole run of posts, and the brand held across all of them. That is what a social package does with a shoot day, and it comes from the same people who plan and cut every post.

Three months, to start with

Three months is the shortest package we run, and there is a smaller way in: one-off social films and short campaign cuts, usually a fifteen second and a thirty second version of a longer hero film, each edited for its platform. Start there if you'd rather test the water, and we'll say honestly whether a package would be worth it afterwards.

If you'd rather start smaller, we also make one-off social films and short campaign cuts, typically a fifteen second and a thirty second version of a longer hero film. They're edited specifically for each platform rather than adapted from the long cut.

FAQ

How does a monthly social media video package work?

We plan three months of content with you, film it in concentrated batch days and edit a steady run of posts each month, usually two a week, cut for each platform with captions.

Which platforms do you make social video for?

LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok. Each post is delivered vertical for Reels, Stories, Shorts and TikTok, and square or 16:9 for LinkedIn and YouTube.

How long is the minimum social video package?

Three months, because social video takes time to find its audience. One-off social films and short campaign cuts are also available.

Why do social videos need captions?

Most people watch on a phone with the sound off, so a social video has to make sense without audio and earn the watch in the first two seconds.

Social media video production is one of our video production services, and the packages are usually planned with a video strategy behind them. A launch that needs a single big film first is better served by promotional video production. The OakNorth culture film shows how far one shoot with real people can go, and charities building towards an appeal can read video production for charities.

Three things people ask

How long does it take?
Four to six weeks from brief to delivery, for most projects. How we work
What do we actually get?
A finished film, cut for every place it'll be shown, from your website to LinkedIn to a screen at an event. How we work

This is one of the ways we work, and the whole range is on the video production services page. People reading about social media video often go on to video strategy and promotional videos. You can see the approach at work in the OakNorth case study, and for a sector where showing up every week builds the audience a campaign needs, read video production for charities. Guides that go with it: why use video for marketing, how long a corporate video should be and walk and talk videos.
